Online Nature Reserves & Countryside Sites

Wicken Fen NNR, Cambridgeshire, A really good range of content, some regularly updated.

Hartslock SSSI: a magnificent collection of information and a most stylish website. Dare you download the zipped species list?
You know you can't resist it.

Offwell Woodland & Wildlife Trust a great - if garish - site with lots of good species information, good stuff on British amphibians and reptiles, even interactive wildlife puzzles!

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve: well-designed pages with lots of info, up to date, no end of useful links and even souvenirs to buy!

WINNERS

The Friends of Bramcote Ridge: so much content, so easy to navigate! The Ridge looks like a really good place to visit as well.
Blackwater Valley Countryside Service - very comprehensive, great stuff on volunteering and wildlife.
Westwood Woodland Park, Southampton, Hants. Hampshire CC have excelled themselves on this, a typical example of many of their countryside websites. Well-written info with wonderful photos and cutting-edge web design, matched with bang up-to-date content. Nice.
Rutland Water Nature Reserve: Lots on it and now regular updates. Nice!.
St Wulstan's Local Nature Reserve, Malvern Wells: comprehensive pages which look very nice, load quickly and are easy to use.
Sculthorpe Moor Community Nature Reserve, Norfolk. A developing reserve with lots of pictures and information, website a little hard to navigate but worth the effort.
Durlston Country Park, Swanage
Judywoods - loads of information
Skokholm Island: a very nice and informative set of pages about a most unusual reserve off the coast of Wales. But hang on - last updated 1997! Oh dear! Is this a record?
Walton Hall Virtual Nature Trail: we used to love it to bits. Once a cutting-edge site, now still good, but just old. Good example of a low-graphics, high-content site but hopelessly out of date.
Friends of Milton Country Park
Gilfach Nature Reserve, Wales. Simple but effective.
Fort Victoria Country Park: not the official homepage but a fair bit on it.
Teesmouth Field Centre
Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre, Southampton

There are now lots more Country Parks and Nature Reserves on the Web than there were when this page started, and so we shall not be putting them all up, otherwise it would get too big.
