Note: NI government websites are all a bit funny whilst political reorganisation continues. Links often change and/or break so we won't be updating them until it's resolved - well, until the websites are resolved anyway.

Environment and Heritage Service (Northern Ireland)The aim of the Environment and Heritage Service is to to protect and conserve Northern Ireland's natural heritage and built environment, to control and regulate pollution and to promote the wider appreciation of the environment and best environmental practices.

Environment Service has responsibility for developing and implementing environmental policy in Northern Ireland. Its remit is the protection and conservation of the natural environment and the built heritage, and the protection of the environment from the pollution of air, water and land. It is advised by four advisory bodies:

Environment Service (Countryside and Wildlife) is responsible for nature and countryside conservation in Northern Ireland, and is empowered by three main pieces of legislation; the Nature and Amenity Lands (NI) Order 1985, the Access to the Countryside (NI) Order 1983, and the Wildlife (NI) Order 1985.

The service has undergone a number of changes as have most government bodies in Northern Ireland. These may not yet be over.
