he Countryside Council for Wales is the government agency responsible for
nature conservation in Wales. It was previously part of two seperate bodies,
the Nature Conservancy Council, and the Countryside Commission, but changed
in 1991. The Countryside Council for Wales is in charge of designating SSSIs
and NNRs, and other functions including advising the government and undertaking
research. It administers environmental grants.
The Countryside Council for Wales: A very comprehensive and well designed page. In Welsh, too, no less! (English option also available).
