As an astronomer on the IOW, light pollution is a hot topic.
I have displayed this little animation on my blog for a while now and it has prompted quite a few comments.
We are very lucky on the Island to have some of the best night skies in the UK. Comparison of good and bad is easy here, visit Tesco's or Morrisons' car parks at night, look up, and then take a trip to Brighstone and do the same.... The difference is staggering.

Cheers
Brian

The Ranger's Blog

The thoughts and writings of The Virtual Ranger, since 1995 the host and mascot of Naturenet, the UK's most popular independent environmental website; along with interjections from his real-life alter ego, Matthew Chatfield, and others. Featuring not only Naturenet and countryside related stuff, but, as on Naturenet, plenty of other material - more or less at random - that takes The Ranger's fancy. But you can be confident that soon enough he'll be rather sarcastic.
